    Towards a technological revolution

    Dear Colleagues,


    We are pleased to announce the call for papers for the 18th International Conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality, CONVR 2018 ( to be held in Auckland, New Zealand between 21st to 23rd November 2018.


    CONVR is one of the world-leading conferences in the areas of virtual reality, augmented reality and building information modelling. CONVR brings together researchers and practitioners from the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry to enhance the exchange of concepts and methods for the application of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The aim of the conference is to report on ideas, improvements, and applications of innovative international research activities and on strategies for the future development of research perspectives. 


    CONVR is an exciting international event and we expect to bring more than 100 delegates from all over the world. The local organisation is developing a great programme with international keynote speakers from industry and academia, and parallel sessions for paper and poster presentations and workshops. We are committed to bring the latest advances in science and practice in the space of VR/AR and related technologies. Mature researchers and practitioners in the field as well as PhD and postgraduate students are more than welcome to submit contributions and come to New Zealand.

    Dear Member,

    About three sessions ago, a more formalized mechanism was put in place to ensure certain IESL Officers (President – Elect and 3 VPs who are among the nine Officers of the IESL ) are directly accountable for the sustained development of the IESL Provincial Chapters (and their District Offices) in collaboration with Chapter/District Leadership Committees. This was instituted with the stated goal of the IESL Council to give more responsibilities and powers to provinces while maintaining high professional standards expected from an institution like IESL. The overall idea (conducting of B paper exams, CPD courses, increased yearly budget allocations, well organized AGMs and yearly activities, etc.) has delivered a great success and should progress.

    Further, about 60% of our members are deployed in provinces. With the economic development of the country along with ICT/Transport base, more and more of our members will work in provinces in years to come. 


    In order to strengthen focused communications and actions, it is paramount that each one of the IESL members should;

    · login to’ MyIESL’ portal of IESL website 
    · go to ‘Member Self Service’ to access his/her personal  profile  
    (or use the link
    · update / add the Provincial Chapter he/she is currently associated with or will associate with, during the session 2017/2018.

    For any technical issues, Ms. Nimesha ( of Membership Department should be contacted.

    President - Elect and three Vice Presidents will get in touch with the provincial  leadership to embark on another successful episode of our collective journey to strengthen and empower our Provincial Chapters in session 2017/2018 under the guidance of our President and the Council.     Dear Member,


    Please be informed that as per the decision arrived at the Council meeting held on 10th November 2017, those whose membership lapsed before three years as of 1st January, 2018 could only reinstate their membership by going through the newly imposed membership re-instatement process all over again as detailed in the attachment (link). Simply paying membership dues would not be adequate enough to regain the membership status of all categories.

    In  view of the said stance, those members are kindly advised to take note and avoid the difficulties that would entail their reinstatement as a member of the institution. For any clarifications in this regard, please contact the Membership division of the IESL.

    Please be informed that the Council at its meeting held on Friday, 8th September, 2017 has appointed Eng. Neil Abeysekera as the Executive Secretary of the IESL with immediate effect.

    Also be informed that Eng. M.A. Panditharatna who has been appointed to the post of Deputy Executive Secretary (Membership) has assumed duties from 1st September, 2017.
